Our Two Victories!

Posted on Mar 21, 2012

Today, I'm posting about two exciting developments - one small - and one not so small...

First, I'm asking everyone go to their Google search bar and type"peer advocacy for children with cancer" and see what comes up.  You should see Lainie's Angels listed at number two on the page, right under the American Cancer Society listing!  Now that's progress!  Hooray for Search Engines!

And there's more.  Our parent advocacy program at Mt. Sinai Medical Hospital in Manhattan is expanding its program to include a new parent advocate.  She is a pediatric cancer surivor (osteosarcoma or bone cancer), who is now grown, with an MBA from Columbia University, married with a new baby.  She will begin working with our current advocate at Mt. Sinai on or after April 1st, helping parents understand what their child is going through.  Now for those of you who don't remember, a parent advocate is a mom or dad whose kid has had cancer or a blood disorder.  We have always believed that those who have "been there, done that"  are the best resource for helping parents and families cope with this dread disease and the challenges it presents.  Our new advocate will be able to speak to these needs, as a survivor who can address the needs of both the parent and the patient!

I have always believed that our mission of compassionate care and advocacy would grow and expand, ultimately including those who have not only helped battle the disease, but fought it themselves!  Just one more level of compassionate care, parent advocacy and peer support for our families.  Onward and upward!
