Lainie's Angels Joins APOSW

Posted on Mar 12, 2013

Dear Friends of Lainie's Angels,

This month, Lainie’s Angels became a member of APOSW, the Association of Pediatric Oncology Social Workers. APOSW is an organization that serves to advance pediatric psychosocial oncology care, while promoting the interests of social work within pediatric oncology. Their main priority is to create awareness, build support, and educate social workers in the pediatric oncology field.

Lainie’s Angels core purpose has, and always will be – to build and provide a support system for families struggling with pediatric cancer. In joining APOSW, the Lainie’s Angels team will not only have access to exclusive online resources about running in-hospital peer support programs, but will also have direct communication with social workers trained specifically for programs that are pediatric oncology-centric.

Lainie’s Angels founder Stathi Afendoulis will be attending the APOSW conference in Minneapolis in May to exhibit the foundation’s parent advocacy program, and build connections with social workers that will eventually be running the program in participating hospitals.

As the ever-growing need for parent support continues, Lainie’s Angels is determined to be at the forefront of the program development movement. In the coming months, the foundation will utilize its connections with APOSW to implement training programs and seminars for continued education and certification in parent advocacy.
