Peer Support

Peer support and advocacy is at the heart of the Lainie's Angels mission. We have created a comprehensive Parent Advocate training program that provides qualified candidates with the preparation and skills they need to assist both parents and patients in their struggle with pediatric cancer or a blood disease. Our goal is to build a national network of these advocates, or "angels," to help as many families as possible cope with their difficult ordeal.

With financial resources gathered through our various fund-raising efforts, we provide qualified hospitals, clinics and institutions with grants to initiate Parent Advocate programs. Once the advocate starts work at the sponsoring institution, he or she builds awareness of the program, develops a volunteer base and, ultimately, assists the institution in making the program self-sufficient.

Raising awareness of childhood cancer and blood diseases, and their effects upon families, is a key component of the Lainie's Angels organization. Through ongoing public relations efforts, we strive to spread our message to as many individuals as possible, through as many means as possible. In particular, we speak out publicly on our families' behalf, to make sure that their neighbors across the nation understand their need.

Lainie's Angels acts as a guide for treatment information and resources, offering parents what we believe is the most current and reliable information available to them. Our goal is to simplify the overwhelming, and often confusing, range of information available to parents. In essence, we act as a clearinghouse from which parents can gather the knowledge they need to make the decisions they face.
